Revolution Church is a church where you will feel loved and accepted wherever you are at in your journey. But, you will also be challenged to be more, to press on, to overcome and to be free in Jesus.
Welcome to Revolution Church. We are a young church in West Vancouver, meeting in the Horseshoe Bay area. This is a part of our story.
Settling in West Vancouver
In 2009, we (Nick and Lisa) felt that God was moving us to Vancouver to plant a church. For several years previous, we had served as leaders in a church in Victoria with a strong church planting culture. So, when Nick got head-hunted for a job in Vancouver, it was already self-evident that we would be church planting.
But Vancouver was a big place and for people unfamiliar with the city, finding out where God was moving us wasn’t the easiest thing to do. Growing up and working on “The Island”, Vancouver was only known to us as urban sprawl, a series of shopping malls, freeways, traffic jams and suburbs. We were wrong of course but also intimidated. How would we know where to go? Where would we end up?
We looked high and low – Burnaby, New Westminister, Surrey, Downtown, the North Shore. We spent many weeks searching MLS and mining the internet for clues and inspiration. What a surprise and a delight when God planted us in West Vancouver. Through a series of God events, we bought a home in Caulfeild and moved in December 2009, just before the Olympic Games.
The Beginning of Revolution Church
Church planting isn’t easy. In fact, it has been one of the most difficult things we have ever done. -We were blessed to already have some friends on the North Shore who were also feeling God moving them in a new direction. When they heard we were settling in West Vancouver and that we were planning to plant a church, it was very natural for us to connect and to start praying together about what God would do. In particular, Jeb and Dana Dykema and Sharon Robinson have been faithful friends from the very beginning and have shared many of the ups and downs of the early days of church planting.
Church planting isn’t easy. In fact, it has been one of the most difficult things we have ever done. But we wouldn’t want it any other way. We have learned so much about living for Jesus, loving life, and being humble. We have learned to love the church as Christ has loved the church, to honour and respect it and to be part of the great work that God has purposed for it in this earth. We know the value of hard work, of great worship and preaching, and how wonderful it truly is when brethren dwell in unity. We are discovering just how good church can be.
How Revolution Church Got Its Name
Living the Christian life really is a revolutionary act. It changes the way we think. -In 2009, before we left Victoria, God dropped the word “Revolution” into our hearts. This was before the Arab Spring or any of the other revolutions that have since changed the history and landscape of our modern world. God had released a prophetic vision of what He was going to do both in the world and in the church. We began to see this word popping up all over the place, hearing it in music and seeing it in art. Everything was suddenly revolutionary, whether hand soap or theology!
Understanding this word and how it applies to God’s church has been both inspiring and challenging. When we are tempted to get too comfortable or complacent in our faith, we remember what God is doing and what we are part of. We see that God is raising up a people who really love Jesus, restoring the beauty of the church, and establishing a Kingdom government where Jesus is King.
Living the Christian life really is a revolutionary act. It changes the way we think, it sees possibilities instead of impossibilities, it believes that our sins have been paid for, that miracles still happen and that there is victory and hope in Jesus Christ.
Our Current Location
In 2011, we shifted our little band of brothers and sisters out of our living room in Caulfeild and moved into an Anglican Church building in Horseshoe Bay at 4:00 Sunday afternoon. We shared the space with the St. Monica’s parish, who met on Sunday mornings. We didn’t know it at the time, but the little Anglican parish would soon close its doors and Revolution Church would take over the 10am time on Sunday mornings.
Now we are the only church in the area. What a privilege and responsibility! That same church is now up for sale. We are trusting God’s leading and provision as we consider what this means for us and our future.
God has brought a great group of people together. -In the process of living and building church biblically and being intentional with our faith and our calling, we have seen God do amazing things. God has brought a great group of people together. It is fun to watch God build a church and to see the individuals and families He builds into its foundation. Together we are His body and each one brings their own talents, gifts, finances, and vision.
We think Revolution Church is a church where you will feel loved and accepted wherever you are at in your journey. But, you will also be challenged to be more, to press on, to overcome and to be free in Jesus. We believe in the transforming power of the Good News of Jesus Christ. We believe that miracles still happen and that we are all called to live purposeful, abundant, and satisfying lives.
Come and join us at 10:00am on Sundays. Our services are lively and encouraging, with a vibrant children’s ministry. Be part of the story that God is writing for His church in West Vancouver.
